Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

Usually, when trip planning I have an internal debate with myself “Do I have enough ‘kids’ activities? Or does it not matter and they can just learn how to be little humans in an adult world?” While I’d love to say that they always flawlessly blend into adult scenes, that isn’t the case… so travel tends to proceed most smoothly when there is space to run and be loud, at least every once in awhile. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts was the perfect combination of quiet museum (they had a wonderful exhibition of Kéretsz photographs, as well as exquisite Fabergé pieces and a lush collection of sporting paintings… the boys were enthralled with the lifelike animals) and kid friendly spaces. Besides the welcoming courtyard and fountains, there is also a kids exploration area where little ones can compose their own ‘still life’ with objects, draw, or create patterns. Admission is free and the museum is open 365 days a year. If you’re ever in Richmond, I’d highly recommend you stop by- with or without kids.
