Family | 2 hrs in the Mid Morning.

I photograph my family. Our daily life, our travels and our occasional portrait sessions. Most of the time, I love the freedom of that. I can shoot what I want, when I want, without feeling obligation to capture other people’s visions or stick to external timelines for production. Sometimes, though, I find myself feeling antsy. I want to try something new, push outside of my normal and see if I can accomplish a goal.

Bethany (of bethadilly.com) is a delightful lady whom I had the pleasure of meeting not quite a year and a half ago. She is the kind of friend that you immediately feel at home with. Lacking in pretense, abundant with support and compliments; she challenges me to do more at the same time that she helps me to feel proud of my accomplishments. When I mentioned that I’d like to shoot a documentary/lifestyle/portrait mash-up session of her family, Bethany immediately jumped in with an offer to help and the entire experience was just what I had hoped for.

Find your people out there in the photography world, friends. Community can simultaneously inspire healthy competition while also giving you a safe place to grow and connect. Photography is better with friends.

  1. Oh, I love this! It’s so much fun when world’s collide in the blogging universe. It’s so funny to see Beth’s life apart from her bright, airy photos! So interesting to see the contrasts of your photography syles! ( Love them both, btw!!)

    1. It was so much fun :) Photographing other photographers is a fulfilling collaborative process, as they understand light, posing and are patient with the process!

  2. This is perfection! I love how you captured the day in and day out “stuff” that we all do. I’ve always thought photography doesn’t mean dress up and stand facing the camera. You’ve captured life here and I am sure they will LOVE these forever!

    1. Thanks, Jessica! I agree with you, there is a place for ‘expected’ portraits, and there is plenty of room for other approaches to photography, as well :)
