One of my favorite places in Sicily. Enjoying the hospitality of some truly wonderful friends.

Did you know that donkeys are kept as milk animals? Neither did I! These sweet animals were so content and kindly tolerated the attention of over 30 toddlers and preschoolers. The geese on the farm were quite a bit less pleased with our presence. The preschooler of my pair was all set to ride the
The amusement park near where we lived is extremely clean, well-maintained and uncrowded. This was our second visit with the kiddos and the airplanes were the biggest hit, once again. We allowed our oldest to ride the large roller coaster that goes upside down and he was excited, but nervous. Then he rode it, and
Over Memorial Day weekend we took the ferry from Messina across to the mainland. Calabria is a lot like Sicily in landscape and is pleasantly quiet and lacking in tourist crowds. We stayed in a lovely villa just above the coast and spent a lot of time feeding children (7 kids! Super fun to travel
When life gets busy I often find myself diving in with my camera, using it to document, distract, observe and sometimes- to quiet my mind. When I’m thinking in photographs I don’t spend as much time thinking in words. Instead, I quietly observe. I truly see the world around me. Sometimes that means that I
Talk about stunning scenery. I had high hopes of returning to this amazing beach at least once more, but the major highway connecting East Sicily to West Sicily has been shut down, with an hour+ detour put in place, and an estimate of months- to years!- for repair. It looks as though San Vito

Last July, when we visited Erice for the first time, I remember that it was cooler up on the mountaintop than it had been down at sea level in Trapani. When we visited this time, in early April, it was also colder up at the top. Super cold, actually. The clouds were briskly blowing across
We spent a few days on the West side of Sicily, exploring Trapani, Marsala, Erice and Palermo from a home base of a hillside villa. These images capture some of the moments at home, which included a stomach bug for two of the boys. Yikes. I have a new appreciate for washers and dryers as

Taormina is one of our favorite destinations on the island. I’m trying to capture the details, now. The little things that make Sicily unique.
This was our first visit to Noto, another Unesco World Heritage Site here in Sicily. The buildings and wide open streets in the historic area were beautiful and we were able to take a brief guided tour to the top of one of the churches that offered an expansive view of the surrounding area.
On the last day of the trip we walked up into the narrow pathways of Atrani towards Ravello. A small storm had rolled through giving the water a little more movement than we had seen on previous days. Wild broccoli was growing on the side of the path, along with mint and some other herbs. I

On day 3 we purposefully kept it low-key. 8 hours of touring the day before had been a lot to ask of 3 small boys. A yummy breakfast at the apartment, some beach time, a walk to Amalfi for panini and gelato and naps in the afternoon rounded out the day.

After waking up to the beauty of Atrani we got an earlier start to the day as we had booked an 8 hour tour of the coast. Our driver recommended driving to the most southern city we were to visit, Sorrento, and then we would work our way back North. Below, is a view of

On our first day on the Amalfi coast we woke up in our apartment in Atrani and then headed up to the rooftop terrace to take in the view. Then it was off to the beach to throw rocks, because what else would little boys like to do on vacation at a pebbly beach? Afterwords

We spent a lovely afternoon at a local farm making small pizzas, squeezing fresh blood-orange juice, watching (chasing…) the animals and enjoying the beauty of Sicily in the early Spring.
